Baltimore County, MD —— Stoneleigh Bowling Lanes, a beloved local
landmark and gathering place for generations of bowlers, is proud to
celebrate 80 years of operation in Baltimore County during the month
October 2026. Since opening its doors, Stoneleigh has remained a place
where families, friends, leagues, and neighbors come together for
friendly competition, community connection, and timeless fun.
For eight decades, Stoneleigh Bowling Lanes has served as more than
just a bowling alley — it has been a hometown destination where
memories are made, traditions are started, and milestones are
celebrated. From youth league bowlers taking their first roll to
longtime regulars returning season after season, Stoneleigh has been a
constant presence in the community.
“Reaching 80 years is an incredible milestone,” said a Stoneleigh
Bowling Lanes spokesperson. “We are deeply grateful to the generations
of customers, employees, league members, and neighbors who have made
Stoneleigh part of their lives. This anniversary is really a
celebration of our community.”

What is Duckpin Bowling?
Duckpin bowling is an exciting variation on the classic game of ten-pin! Prepare to have your skills put to the test, as duckpins are smaller and lighter than regular pins - making strikes far more difficult. Get out there and show 'em what you've got with this fun twist on a time honored tradition!

THE ORIGIN OF DUCKPIN BOWLING
Step back in time to the turn of the century and hear a tale as old as Baltimore itself. It's here that duckpin bowling first began, sparked by Frank Van Sant at Diamond Alleys who made special pins crafted from woodmaker John Dittmar. When balls collided with these small sized pins they created an image likened to “a flock of flying ducks” - thus earning this classic game its name! It wasn’t until 1953, however, that inventor Ken Sherman created an automatic pinsetter for duckpin bowling. This became a popular tool to use when playing the game and still continues to be the most used pinsetter at most duckpin bowling locations. In 1982, The Women’s National Duckpin Association was founded to give women the opportunity to compete professionally in duckpin competitions. Duckpin bowling is worth trying if you haven't already, so come on down for some fun today!
